WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2010, Aviary Vineyards launched with the 2009 vintage of our Napa Valley Red Blend. That first vintage took advantage of tiny lots of different varieties from 13 different vineyards throughout Napa Valley. Much like an aviary, the blend of different grapes interacted and harmonized to create a wine that was beautiful, enjoyable, and captivating. Each component is wonderful, but together, they combined into a truly great experience.
Napa Valley Reserve
We are excited to announce the first release of our Aviary Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet. After years of seeking more fruit and new contracts to grow our Napa Valley line, this new release is a long time in the making! It isn’t in bottle yet but the barrel samples have us excited! We utilized our long term contracts and came across some incredible Merlot to help grow the production while letting the wine sit in barrel for 14 months.
THE BEST OF NAPA'S NEST.
California Cabernet Sauvignon
2017 began with plenty of rain that led to a mild spring. The summer was warm, leading to slightly earlier harvest than typical. On October 8, wildfires broke out and devastated the region with fire, smoke and accessibility to vineyards. Luckily all of our grapes were harvested, and the wines aren’t showing any smoke taint. That being said, we are showing exceptional quality across the board and are very happy with our results from a stressful year.
The 2017 California Cabernet Sauvignon, was designed to be bigger and bolder than the average cab, while maintaining our classic smooth texture. The summer heat allowed the grapes to safely grow a little more ripe, giving us bolder fruit flavors of blueberry, blackberry, strawberry jam, and black tea. Balanced oak flavors of leather and tobacco seem layered into the tannins as the bigger texture moves from rich to elegant on the palate. This is thanks to the smooth, long finish that has become a signature of Aviary’s house style.

2016 was a winemaker’s dream - ripening happened perfectly. Acid levels were dropping in line with sugar rise, so picking decisions became easy with excellent, balanced levels. Because of the drought, there was no real inclement weather with consistent warm mild weather which allowed grapes to be picked at optimal time.
In the glass, the wine is a bright straw laced with honey. Aromas of tropical fruit, vanilla bean, banana, and apricot invite you in. On the palate, the texture is round and smooth with bright acid. Flavors of pineapple, guava, buttered toast, and banana balance together into a wine that is both rich and refreshing.

Aviary’s inaugural release was a red blend from the 2009 vintage where we utilized the best fruit that Napa Valley had to offer. We haven’t released a Red Blend from Aviary since the 2015 vintage but the requests to bring it back did not fall on deaf ears. The final blend is almost set but you can expect another Bordeaux Blend from the Birds of Prey 2017 release to follow in the steps of past vintages!
THE WHOLE IS GREATER THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS.
